AI rank tracking

Your customers now get answers in three places. Most trackers watch one.

Google results you can see. AI Overviews you half-see. Assistants you cannot see at all. These are three different measurements of the same question, and a tracker that only reports the first one is describing a shrinking part of your market.

What this measures
  • Daily positions, top 30Where you rank, checked every day, with movement over any window from 7 days to 12 months
  • AI Overview presenceWhether an AI Overview appeared for the keyword, and whether it cited you
  • Assistant visibilityMention and citation rates in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, per question, weekly
  • Unlimited competitorsDiscovered from stored results rather than capped at ten, and applied retroactively

Why one number stopped being enough

For twenty years a rank tracker answered a complete question. There was a list of ten blue links, you were somewhere on it, and your position told you roughly what traffic to expect. That model held because the results page and the answer were the same thing.

They are not the same thing now. A search can return an AI Overview above the results, which answers the question and leaves the links below it unclicked. A large number of questions never reach Google at all, because the person asked an assistant instead. You can hold position one and watch traffic fall, and a tracker reporting only that position will tell you everything is fine.

What we track, precisely

Positions to 30, checked daily, on desktop. We say 30 rather than 100 because beyond the third page the number is noise: nobody is there, and reporting a move from 84 to 71 as progress is flattering rather than useful.

For every keyword we also record whether an AI Overview appeared and whether it cited you. That pairing is the interesting part, because the combination of a strong position and an AI Overview that ignores you is a specific, diagnosable problem, and it is invisible if you only look at the rank.

Separately, we ask real questions of ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity each week and record whether you were mentioned, whether you were cited as a source, and which competitors turned up instead.

Don't know what these are? Don't worry, we've got you!

Competitors without a cap

Most trackers make you nominate up to ten competitors in advance, which assumes you already know who they are. We keep the results we collect, so competitors are derived from the data rather than declared: anyone ranking for your keywords is visible, and because it is computed from stored results it works backwards through your history too.

That matters when a competitor you have never heard of starts taking your keywords. Under the nominate-in-advance model you find out when you notice. Here they simply appear.

And the thing you can actually do with it

Data is only half of it. Connect the tracker to your own AI assistant over our MCP connector and it can read all of the above, cross-reference it against the Google update timeline and your Search Console history, and tell you what happened and what to do about it.

That is the difference between a tracker that shows you a line going down and one that tells you the line went down because a core update landed on the 12th, your competitor published a better page, and here are the three keywords worth fighting for.

Common questions

  1. What is an AI rank tracker?

A rank tracker that measures more than Google positions: whether AI Overviews appear for your keywords and cite you, and whether AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity mention you when asked questions in your market. They are separate measurements and a classic rank tracker reports none of the last two.

  2. Why do you only track the top 30?

Because below that the position carries no useful information. Traffic beyond the third page is effectively zero, and reporting movement down there creates the impression of progress where none exists.

  3. How often is everything checked?

Rankings and the AI readiness scan run daily. AI visibility, backlinks and page speed run weekly. Technical site audits and search volumes run monthly.

Every plan gets all of it

We do not split this across tiers. Rank tracking, AI Overview presence, AI visibility across all three assistants, the daily AI readiness scan, security and domain health, Search Console, backlinks and audits are on every plan from £29 a month. Plans differ only in how much you track.
