Perplexity

Perplexity shows its sources. That makes it the most readable signal you have.

Perplexity is smaller than ChatGPT and considerably more transparent. It cites heavily and visibly, which makes it the easiest place to see how an AI answer about your market is actually being assembled, and who is being trusted to build it.

What this measures
  • Mention rateHow often you are named, per question, over time
  • Citation rateHow often your pages are used as sources
  • Source listEvery source the answer drew on, which is unusually complete here
  • CompetitorsWho appears in the same answers

Why a smaller platform is worth tracking

On raw audience, Perplexity is not where most of your customers are. It earns its place in a tracking set for a different reason: it is the clearest window onto how these systems decide who to trust, because it cites more openly than the others and its answers are easier to trace back to sources.

If your pages are getting cited in Perplexity and ignored elsewhere, that tells you the content is in a good state and the problem is reach. If nothing cites you anywhere, the problem is upstream, and the fix is different.

The source list is a link building brief

Every answer we record comes with the sources it used. Across a set of questions in your market, the same domains keep appearing: an industry publication, a directory, a comparison site, a forum thread.

That is a target list assembled from evidence rather than guesswork. Being present, accurate and current on the sources these systems already trust is one of the more reliable ways to end up in answers about your market.

Don't know what these are? Don't worry, we've got you!

What comparing platforms tells you

We run the same questions across ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, and they frequently disagree. Those disagreements are informative rather than noise.

Mentioned everywhere except one platform generally points at how that platform sources its answers. Mentioned nowhere points at you, and usually at either crawler access or content structure. Cited by Perplexity and merely mentioned by the others often means your page is good and your brand presence elsewhere is thin.

Region is a setting, not an accident

Answers vary by country, and without a location signal you will often be shown a picture of a market you do not operate in. You set the country per question so the answers you measure match what your customers see.

Common questions

  1. Is Perplexity worth tracking if it is smaller than ChatGPT?

Yes, as a diagnostic. It cites more visibly than the others, so it shows you how answers in your market are being built and which sources are trusted. That insight applies well beyond Perplexity itself.

  2. How often do you check?

Weekly, on the questions you set, with the country you specify.

  3. What if I appear in Perplexity but not ChatGPT?

Usually a reach problem rather than a content problem. Your pages are good enough to cite; the larger platform is drawing on sources that do not mention you. The source list from your tracked questions is where to start.

Every plan gets all of it

We do not split this across tiers. Rank tracking, AI Overview presence, AI visibility across all three assistants, the daily AI readiness scan, security and domain health, Search Console, backlinks and audits are on every plan from £29 a month. Plans differ only in how much you track.
